Beyond the Fabric: When Textile Innovation Becomes Wearable Art

At Laprotex, we believe textiles are more than materials—they are a canvas for creativity. Every fabric we develop has the potential to become something extraordinary when placed in the hands of the right designer.

This collaboration is a celebration of that philosophy.

Breaking the Corporate Dress Code

Trade shows have long followed an unwritten rule: neutral colors, traditional business attire, and a corporate look that rarely stands out.

Every year, we attend Techtextil, one of the world’s leading textile exhibitions. Rather than wearing conventional corporate apparel, we wanted to showcase our textiles in a completely different way.

Instead of simply displaying fabrics on a booth, we decided to wear them.

A Collaboration with Mexican Creative Talent

To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Pascual Orozco, a Mexican fashion designer from Michoacán known for his bold, maximalist, and unconventional aesthetic.

His work is strongly influenced by his cultural roots.

“I was born near the Purépecha Plateau, where vibrant colors are part of everyday life. The Purépecha people are known for combining bold, contrasting colors—beautiful embroidered aprons, pleated skirts, and garments full of character. That heritage has shaped the way I design.”

Pascual didn’t simply design garments. He transformed our textiles into wearable works of art.

Each jacket was individually intervened and textured by hand, allowing his artistic identity to merge with our technical expertise. The result is a collection where textile engineering meets fashion design, proving that innovation happens when different disciplines come together.

“Working with Laprotex fabrics was a unique experience. Realizing the variety of textiles available to bring our designs to life is truly inspiring. When I worked with these fabrics, I discovered a world of materials that can be transformed according to your creative vision. The textiles already exist—but in your hands they become art, if you use the right ones”

Innovation Starts with the Textile

The jackets were created using one of Laprotex’s most distinctive warp-knitted fabrics: our Spacer fabric.

Spacer is a three-dimensional textile composed of two fabric surfaces connected by thousands of monofilament yarns, creating a breathable cushioning layer between them. Imagine it as a textile sandwich—lightweight, resilient, and engineered to provide comfort without sacrificing structure.

Its performance has made it a preferred solution for applications such as:

  • Backpack shoulder straps
  • Medical slings and orthopedic supports
  • Breathable mattresses
  • Motorcycle helmet interiors
  • Protective equipment
  • Performance footwear

But innovation doesn’t stop there.

Today, the fashion industry is increasingly exploring technical textiles as a source of creativity. Designers are moving beyond conventional fabrics, embracing materials originally developed for industrial and performance applications.

Where Engineering Meets Creativity

For us, this project is about much more than a jacket.

It demonstrates that technical textiles can inspire fashion. That industrial materials can become artistic expressions. That engineering and creativity are not opposites—they are partners.

At Laprotex, we are passionate about challenging expectations and helping brands discover new possibilities through warp knitting.
